ATTENTION BROOKLYNITES! You may be eligible for a tax credit….EITC

You and your family may be eligible for a tax credit. Many Brooklyn residents who are eligible for tax credits do not file for them. We need you to help spread the word!
The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is being offered by the federal, state and city government to working individuals and families who meet certain requirements and file a tax return. The refund amount varies depending upon the amount of your income, your marital status and whether your children reside with you.
The EITC can either be received as a credit towards your tax liability or as a cash refund. The maximum income is $37,783 annually ($39,783 for married filing jointly)– the actual amount of your credit depends upon your income and other factors. The maximum combined credit (federal, state and city) for 2006 for families with one qualifying child is $3,852. Some families receive as much as $6,367.
