Marty Breaks Ground for a
New Playground at P.S. 109
On September 30th, Marty took part in a groundbreaking ceremony for a new playground at P.S. 109. Currently, this school has no auditorium, no gym and no play facilities for the nearly 600 children who attend the school. The BP contributed $200,000 in funding to help turn this former parking lot into a brand new playground so these children will finally have an outdoor space to call their own. Councilwoman Yvette Clarke contributed $200,000 to the project and was on hand for the event. The Department of Education also provided $157,000 in funding for the playground. P.S. 109 PTA Co-President Lisa Ramsay was also in attendance.
Special Honor for the Late Edward Rogowsky
On September 30th, Marty joined Councilman David Yassky in unveiling a street sign in honor of Edward Rogowsky, who dedicated his life to making Brooklyn a better place to live and work, on the corner of 7th Avenue and Sterling Place in Park Slope.
Huge New Shopping Center Comes to Brooklyn
On October 1st, Marty, along with Mayor Bloomberg and various elected officials, helped open Brooklyn's first new shopping center in decades, Gateway Center in Spring Creek. "This will become a major retail center and will hopefully start drawing suburban shoppers to Brooklyn!" said the BP.
BP Lauds Big Brothers, Big Sisters of
NYC at Annual Luncheon
On October 1st, Marty was the featured speaker at the Big Brothers, Big Sisters Brooklyn Mentoring Network Luncheon. "There can be no higher priority than nurturing our children and guiding them towards a successful and productive future," Marty said. "I thank Big Brothers and Big Sisters of New York City for the many fine programs they have established, and I thank you for your dedication to the youth of Brooklyn, and for the fine work of each and every one of the organizations represented here today."
Marty Celebrates a New After School Program in East New York
On October 1st, Marty participated in a kick-off ceremony celebrating a new after school program at the Ethan Allen School - P.S. 306 in East New York. The program, which is run by the Brooklyn Bureau of Community Services, is being funded by the New York Jets and will be known as the Jets Academy. "I want to thank the Jets for their support. This program will make a tremendous difference in the lives of P.S. 306 students. I'm now dreaming of bringing the Jets to Brooklyn where they belong!" said Marty.
New Housing for Brooklyn Seniors
On October 2nd, Marty attended a ribbon cutting ceremony for the Huron Housing for Seniors project sponsored by the North Brooklyn Development Corporation. Assemblyman Joe Lentol, Assemblyman Vito Lopez and former Councilman Ken Fisher were also on hand.
BP Participates in Board of Realtors Luncheon
On October 2nd, Marty participated as guest speaker during a daylong educational event for Brooklyn Realtors. "In your business, all of you know that buying, selling or renting real estate, and particularly residential real estate, involves much more than a simple business transaction. For example, the chance to own a home can be a great opportunity for an individual or a family, and is still the cornerstone of the American dream. A home can provide stability, security and a long-term investment. I am dedicated to making homeownership a reality for many more Brooklynites."
BP Helps Dedicate New Mini-Bus for
Seniors in Bay Ridge
On October 3rd, Marty traveled to the Bay Ridge Center for Older Adults for a dedication ceremony of the newest wheelchair accessible minibus to be used for local senior transportation. "I am thrilled to keep the promise made by my predecessor, Howard Golden, to continue the funding for this incredibly vital project," said Marty. The BP contributed $500,000 from his capital budget this year to purchase a number of these wheelchair accessible mini-buses for various senior centers.
Marty On The Move
On October 5th, he attended Brooklyn's first Oyster festival in DUMBO. Kudos to Senator Martin Connor! On October 6th, Marty started the Eileen Dugan Run Against Cancer. The event, which is named after the former assemblywoman who lost her battle with cancer, raises money for the Circle of Hope.
