Marty Helps Launch Brooklyn HealthLink to Remind Everyone the Best Hospitals are
Right Here in Brooklyn!

On October 22nd, Marty, along with fourteen of Brooklyn's finest hospitals, launched Brooklyn HealthLink in front of Kings Plaza Mall to let Brooklynites know that the finest health care around is available at Brooklyn's renowned hospitals. "There is no doubt in my mind that Brooklyn has the best medical care in New York. I am thrilled that these world-class hospitals are working with me on Brooklyn HealthLink to get the word out that you never have to leave this borough to take care of all of your health related needs," said the BP. This outreach campaign is geared towards making it easier for people to connect with local Brooklyn hospitals for all of the appropriate medical attention by logging onto the website at www.brooklynhealthlink.org. You can easily locate the nearest hospitals by just entering in your zip code. People can also link to each of the participating hospital's websites. There is also a toll free number, 1-866-LINK-123, which is an interactive phone system that gives people the choice of what hospital they would like to hear information about. It is easy to use, informative, customized for each hospital and regularly updated to make sure people are getting the most accurate information. The participating hospitals are - Beth Israel Hospital, Brookdale Hospital, Brooklyn Hospital, Coney Island Hospital, SUNY-Downstate Hospital, Interfaith Hospital, Kings County Hospital, Long Island College Hospital, Lutheran Medical Center, New York Methodist Hospital, New York Community Hospital, Victory Memorial Hospital, Woodhull Hospital and Wyckoff Hospital. There are also seven outdoor billboards, including one at the corner of Flatbush Avenue and Avenue U where this announcement was made, letting over half a million people daily in Brooklyn know about the benefits of Brooklyn HealthLink. The other signs are located off of the Brooklyn Bridge, the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, outside the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, Hamilton Avenue, Linden Boul-evard at Powell and at Tillary Street and Flatbush Avenue.

"Nothing can be more important than making sure that our young people are financially literate. Learning these crucial skills today will help these students become our leaders tomorrow by equipping them with the tools necessary to succeed in our increasingly complex world," said Marty. "Congressman Owens and I are delighted to team up with Visa to provide computers and the Practical Money Skills for Life curriculum as an important new tool to reach this goal in Brooklyn."

Brookdale University Hospital Continues to Expand

On October 24, Marty and Deputy BP Yvonne Graham celebrated the expansion of Radutzky Emergency Care Pavillion at Brookdale University Hospital. "The expanded facility that we celebrate today, enables Brookdale to continue to set the standard for state-of-the-art emergency health care," Marty said. "On behalf of the people of Brooklyn, I thank Dr. Lewis Marshall, the Chairman of Emergency Medicine and the entire, wonderful staff at Brookdale for their outstanding standard of healthcare. Kudos also to President and CEO David Rosen for all of your fantastic work!" The Deputy BP began her nursing career in Brookdale's emergency room.

"The Brooklyn Tabernacle is one of the jewels of Brooklyn and has made so many outstanding religious, educational and social contributions to the borough. This incredible facility will be used by Pastor Cymbala and his staff for many more great things like vital community outreach and for the Tabernacle's nationally acclaimed choir," said Marty.

Marty Celebrates More Affordable Housing in Brooklyn

On October 23rd, Marty celebrated the ground breaking for a new 35-unit building of affordable housing, across the street from the St. John's Place Family Center. Six units will be reserved for formerly homeless families. On October 24th, Marty attended a ribbon cutting ceremony for the Evelyn Burns Homes, a development of affordable two family homes developed by Astella Development Corporation and Berean Missionary Baptist Church. Councilwoman Tracy Boyland and J.P. Morgan Chase played instrumental roles in making this project a reality. "The creation of more affordable housing is my number one priority. We are facing an affordable housing crisis in Brooklyn. I believe that despite the budget crisis we face today, we must create an ambitious housing agenda - one that envisions a great and prosperous tomorrow," said the BP. "These developments are a model for how we can work together to create appropriate and affordable housing that benefits the entire community."
